Key features

Cap bright scarlet red to blood red, skin easily peeled to 2/3 of the radius. Gills pure white, brittle, stem white (never pink-tinged), flesh very acrid, burning in taste: a diagnostic test. Often grows on mossy ground in coniferous forests.
