Both species grow together for about 14 wk a year. Most strongly from mid-August to mid-September.

Key features

Cap of variable color: violet, bluish, greenish, olive, often a mix of tones on one fruit body. Gills white, soft and flexible (they do not crumble when rubbed with a finger: diagnostic feature), flesh mild, stem white; FeSO4 gives a greenish reaction.
