Key features

Cylindrical, egg-shaped cap, white to cream, covered with projecting, fibrous scales; as it matures, the margin blackens and dissolves into black ink (autodeliquescence). Stem tall, white, hollow, with a movable ring; edible only when very young, while the gills are still white.
